BREVARD COUNTY • SUNTREE, FL – Organ recitals at Yale, choral composition premieres in Philadelphia are part of a day in the life of Ethan Haman, this year’s rising star for the Advent Concert Series Lutheran Church.
The Fremont, Calif. native will be the featured performer at the Rising Star Pipe Organ Concert at 7550 N. Wickham Road in Suntree on Sunday, April 24 at 3 p.m.
Haman, 24, will play the 2,196-pipe AE Schlueter organ during a program that showcases not only his mastery of the keyboard, but also his skill in composition and improvisation.
The pipe organ recital will include works by compositional giants of the Baroque and Romantic eras, as well as music by 20th-century musicians.
Among the latter is Haman’s original composition, a Baroque-style prelude and fugue: “Come Thou Source of Every Blessing”.
Part of the program will be reserved for the on-site composition of a four-movement symphony, based on verbal submissions from the audience.
The Improvised Symphony on Submissive Themes is a constant audience favorite for the organist, born in 1997.
In addition to his graduate studies in music at Yale, Ethan maintains a YouTube channel of his organ and improvisational performances and also enjoys studying foreign languages.
He currently speaks English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Cantonese, Mandarin Chinese and is learning German and Korean.
Advent Lutheran Church choirmaster and organist Betty Jo Couch is pleased to name the Yale student as this season’s rising star.
“Ethan is an incredibly gifted young man, with a knack not only for performance, but also for songwriting and improvisation,” Ms. Couch said.
“He’s already achieved more at his young age than a lot of people do in a lifetime. He’s definitely going into the music business.
The Rising Star Recital concludes the 2021-22 season of the Advent Lutheran Church Pipe Organ Concert Series.
