Which USC Gamecock football players will miss the UGA game?
The South Carolina football team will be without several defensive starters against No. 1 Georgia on Saturday (noon, ESPN).
“We have five starters on defense today,” head coach Shane Beamer said in an interview with College GameDay. “So we’re going to have some guys stepping in.”
Most notably, the Gamecocks will be without South Carolina’s top defensive back Cam Smith, confirmed with his pregame availability report. Smith was ruled out of the contest after suffering an injury in last week’s loss to Arkansas. Jordan Reid, ESPN NFL Draft Analyst reported that Smith suffered a concussion against the Razorbacks.
Defensive lineman Alex Huntley will miss the UGA game for the Gamecocks. Huntley injured his leg early in last week’s loss to the Hogs but returned with a knee brace.
Defensive back RJ Roderick (arm) will miss his second straight game.
The Gamecocks already knew they would be limited defensively after defenseman Jordan Strachan and linebacker Mo Kaba both suffered season-ending injuries at Arkansas. Gilber Edmond and Sherrod Greene should start with Strachan and Kaba out.
Defensive linemen MJ Webb and Tonka Hemingway were announced as starters. Marcellas Dial, Nick Emmanwori and DQ Smith have all been announced as secondary starters.
Also absent for today’s game: wide receiver Corey Rucker (foot) and DB David Spaulding (leg).
